Pakistan represents a
rich and diverse array of ecosystems from rocky and sandy coastline in the
extreme south up to some of the World’s highest mountainous ranges in
the extreme north; thus, one can find any ecosystem e.g. coastal
mangroves, mudflats, fresh, brackish and saline wetlands, desert,
coniferous forest and glaciers etc. Insects, that have adapted to all
types of climatic conditions and habitats, and are among the most
successful group of organisms.
Pakistan is known for
it astoundingly diverse insect fauna owing to its varied topography,
physiography, climate conditions and habitat types. For instance, mountain
ranges of Baluchistan and N.W.F.P is known to inhabited by some unique
insects. Likewise, agricultural areas of Sindh and Punjab offers suitable
habitat for some other important insects that are taxonomically still
obscure. Moreover, insect fauna of Kashmir is second to none in the World.
Unfortunately, due to lack of expertise numerous insects have not been correctly identified and thousands others have yet to be explored. Therefore, we offer researchers across the World working in the field of Insect Taxonomy and Faunistics our cooperation with regards to the supply of specimen for research purpose. We, however, do not deal with rare and protected insect species of Pakistan.
